Helllllllo friends! Call me old fashioned, but I’m a big fan of homemade gifts when it comes to my kids. I mean, they have plenty of plastic, mass produced toys, but I just love giving them toys that were created with love and my own two hands. I hope these creations will be passed down to their own kids. Today I wanted to share some of the latest handmade creations I made for my boys during Christmas. I’ve made DIY Jig Saw Animal Blocks for them throughout the past couple years, and now and then I like to create more to add to their collection. You can see some of the other ones I’ve made the (along with the printable templates to make the yourself!) here:

So let me show you how I made these sweet homemade wooden toy blocks. First, I got some 2×6 boards from Lowes (the cheap soft pine ones!)
Next I traced out the design I wanted on the wood.
Then I cut them out with my jig saw.
I always sand down the edges of the blocks with fine sandpaper. That way there will be no splinters on my DIY blocks.
Next, I painted the animals with acrylic paint. I like to water down my paints and let them blend on the wood. I have also used markers and sharpies to add the finer details & faces.
So that’s how to make your own DIY Jig Saw Woodland Animal Blocks! I have the template/pattern for this tutorial below if you want to try your hand at making your own kiddos some animal blocks. It’s quite addicting!
