Funny story. So I have always been obsessed with how jute rugs look. But with three kids and a dog, we learned the hard way that chunky jute rugs are a BIG fat NO for our living room. Crushed up goldfish was always my nemesis. So we changed the rug in the living room. But I just couldn’t let go of ALL my love for jute rugs. So I snuck them into a few other spaces in my house. Shhh!

Doing dishes has become my way of winding down during the day. I used to HATE dishes. But after my husband bought this vintage drainboard sink for me, doing dishes has become my favorite chore. I mean, who wants a pile of dirty pots and pans in that pretty white sink? Not this girl. I want my gorgeous 100 year old sink empty. My husband’s evil plan worked! HA!
So I decided that a jute rug would still work for my little corner of heaven in our home. I got two matching ones from Boutique Rugs. One for under the sink, and one for under the fridge.
This style is called the Norco Rug, and I have the 2’x3′, and the 2’6″x8″ Runner.
They both have a waterproof non-slip mat under them. The main reason I wanted rugs in this space was because we want to avoid getting our laminate floors wet. The floors themselves actually hold up SUPER good, and I have no complaints, but covering them next to the sink and fridge adds an extra layer of protection.
But for us, rugs in our kitchen isn’t just a functional thing. My goal is always to make the everyday things pretty. I love how runners look in kitchens. They just bring a lovely, simple touch of charm. The subtle woven look of a jute rug is a perfect visual element for anyone wanting to add texture to their farmhouse kitchen.
I love how these ones have a subtle hint of blue in the pattern.
Jute goes perfectly with all the raw wood tones I have going on in our kitchen. Another reason I will always have a spot in my heart for jute… even though I had to say farewell to it in our living room.
To put it simply, I am obsessed with how these gorgeous rugs from Boutique Rugs look in this space!
