Being a mom is the best thing in the world, but sometimes it feels like the toughest thing too. I am so blessed to be able to work from home, but sometimes all I want to do is curl up on the couch and watch cartoons with my kids. Sometimes being a working mom from home makes me feel guilty for telling my toddler for the hundredth time that I can’t play with her because I am busy working.
The juggling act between mommy, and mompreneur sometimes gets unbalanced, which results in a month long gap here on my blog. Sorry!
Sometimes I wish I won the lottery, so I could just spend all my time painting, drawing, snuggling my kids, and baking cookies for my husband- wait, that’s what I already do. 😉
But seriously, lately I’ve been dealing with lots of depressing legal stuff: taxes, copyright infringement legal issues with several companies stealing my work, and just being plain burned out of energy.
I also have so many projects going on at once. I’m basically like my iPhone- all the apps open at once- never closing them. My husband makes fun of me so much for how many tabs I always leave up. Apparently that’s why my phone is always slow. Lol.
It’s been somewhat discouraging because lots of amazing opportunities have fallen through for me this year, and it feels like everything is just not going my way.
But that’s okay, because I know in my heart what really matters. Right now I am doing what makes my soul happy, starting with painting my favorite things- animals and flowers.
After all, life isn’t about making the most money, or being in the hall of fame- it’s about creating beautiful things and having a loving soul. So today I am taking a step back from all the craziness, and taking a deep breath.
I have a beautiful life, a wonderful husband, and two adorable, (messy!), loving, (crazy!) kiddos who have me wrapped around their sticky fingers.
I’m hoping to have these prints for sale up in my etsy shop. But I would also love to give one away to all of you- so let me know which is your favorite, and if you have any requests for new animals!
XO
This was so perfect. I've realized that "success" looks different for each of us. For some, it's having kids that are dressed and fed, for others, it's booking that ideal client. And for a lot of us, it's a bit of both. I won't always been 100% on top of things in my business or my house, but I'm actually okay with that. I'd much rather have the flexibility to lay things aside so I can have an impromptu tea party and make up for it later that miss out completely on either aspect. We need my paycheck but my children need their mom, too. And that's my favorite "job" of all.
(and I love them all but the deer and the swan are my favorites)
Thanks so much Megan. Does your kids wearing the same thing three days in a row disqualify me? LOL! I have the hardest time not feeling guilty for focusing on one or the other (family vs work) and honestly, I get so caught up in my goals & the American Dream that it's easy to slip into being a workaholic, which ironically defeats the purpose of me working from home: to spend time with my family. But really, I just need to stop and live in the moment, and see how blessed I am. XO
Love them all but the deer is my favourite
Hang in there, we love your work!
You create such beautiful images! I love the deer and the fox but the bear is my favorite!
I think they are all lovely, but if you are doing a drawing, I'd love to have the origami swan 😀
Hi Hannah… I so understand where you're coming from…because long ago, I was there. My only advice is to enjoy your little ones while you can. When you are working full time in the future, you'll have wonderful memories to ease you through your days! And…as a side note…I'm not sure if your print is a fox or a corgi, but I'm guessing it's a fox! Regardless, it is the spitting image of our corgi, who happens to be named Foxy! So I have to go with the fox! ~ Diane
I think every working mom knows the struggle (and feels like its failing it from time to time)!
Lovely prints, my favourite is the crane
Love the fox one! Though I'd be more likely to put up the swan one. Love your work!
Dear Hannah,
I missed you while you were recharging. I'm so sorry to hear things have gotten you down lately but things will turn around. I love your posts and projects.
Hang in there! You're not alone; being a mom is hard period and what you do here on your blog is amazing! I hope you can find the balance and still keep posting. I love EVERYTHING you post. Good luck!
I love the fox, but the expression on the bear is irresistible! And btw, I have NO idea how to close my tabs, either on my phone or in life!So I just call it "multitasking"! 😉
Your art…is simply…fantastic! Especially love the bear! You are very talented, as well as strong and resourceful!. Best of luck to you.
