This week I literally feel in over my head with how much I have going on. All good things though! 🙂
The biggest one is we are redoing our kitchen!!! AHHHHHH! SO excited!!!
We already bought a new fridge to replace our “newly married” not so gorgeous $100ish craigslist fridge… hey, it worked though. 😉
Basically, we have already sanded (which was a pain!!!) and painted most the wall cabinets white.
Now we just need to paint the doors with our snazzy new paint gun, add the hardware, tile the backsplash (white subway!!!) and add tall molding & encase the fridge…
Okay, so that’s a lot to do. But I am so stoked to be starting this! 🙂
Here is a quick preview of what I have in mind reno-wise. Decorative Hood, lengthening the cabinets with molding, encasing the fridge, and subway tile with a dark grout, etc.
We bought this house with the intent of “dressing it up” to sell. With that said, we don’t want to personalize it too much because we will be selling it in a year or two.
As you can see, there is this wall in our kitchen along the sink dividing the kitchen from the living room… it isn’t the worst layout choice, but we have considered taking it down to open up the layout. But then we would lose the upper cabinets.
Q: Which would you prefer as a buyer? More Storage Space, or an open view to the kitchen?
Q: Does this color of laminate look okay? We don’t really feel like dropping 2K on counters… And laminate is standard for this price range in the area. I love concrete, butcher block, and stone counters, but I don’t know if it’s worth it to touch perfectly good laminate.
Q: White or Dark Grout for the tile?

As a buyer I would rather have an open feel rather than upper cabinets. In fact we just bought a house, and we plan on taking down the wall that separates our kitchen from the dining room – but then there will be space for an island, so not all cabinet space will be lost. I personally like lighter grout than darker grout, as to me the darker grout just looks like its dirty. But I guess it's a personal preference. Good luck on all the changes! Can't wait to see after pics!
Definitely open floor plan! It would look stunning!! Love your ideas 🙂 I think white grout would look really nice, but that's just me! Can't wait to see the end result! it will look fabulous no matter what you decide!
Hey!!! I love your inspiration. Love the white cabinets (I have them now and they're fantastic). Personally I'd definitely keep that wall up! One of the things I miss from my old apartment was not having to always see the kitchen mess (i.e. while you're eating the meal you just made. ;-)). I also know the trials of not having enough cabinets! That being said, you may have enough cabinets without the top ones in which case it may be worth it to make the room feel bigger. Grout: Uh, I actually really like the pics of the black grout (white grout never stays white and then always reminds you it's dirty ;-)). Laminate: I think it will look fine once accented by nice counters/fixtures, etc. We have a boring tan block and I don't even notice it since the cabinets and fixtures look so cute go so well together. I would prefer an open floorplan to the upper cabinets as it makes the space feel larger and is more conducive to socializing and family time, etc. In regards to the counters, you may want to consider IKEA butcher block. We had to install it in my kitchen after a contractor took of with our $2000 down payment. It was very affordable, looks amazing with white cabinets, and is very warm and classic.
We just put in white subway tile with dark grout in our builder basic kitchen and WE LOVE IT TO PIECES! It changed the entire kitchen without changing anything else. I have a question. I love that bookcase in the last picture, but couldn't find a tutorial on it. Did I miss it?

Whatever you choose will look fabulous:) You're going with classic ideas – white cabinets, subway tile, nice molding – so it will be a big improvement whether or not you open it up or use black grout or white grout… go with your gut, because everybody has a different preference:) Can't wait to see the after!
