I wanted to create a DIY Jigsaw Pallet Letter Marquee for the Baby’s room, because I loved how June’s turned out (see her’s HERE!) Since this baby is a boy, I am opting for a softer nursery with more neutral colors, so I decided to use my “go to” favorite wood (pallets!) as my natural material for this Marquee.
You can learn all I know about pallets, including where to find them for free, and red flags to be aware of by checking out my post HERE!
First, I cut a big old J out of plywood.
I typically do these type of projects when my husband is at work… because our conversations usually start out with, “You want to build a what?” Once I get them underway, he catches the vision and usually ends up finishing them for me; which is exactly what happened to this project, and why it turned out so good. Haha!
Next, I went through my pallet wood scrap pile and lined thin pieces over the plywood letter. Once I settled on a pattern, I screwed them onto the J, plywood side up, one by one.
This is where my husband stepped in and did the edging with the jig saw for me.
Next, I had to make the decision on whether to leave the J “as is” in it’s beautiful, natural state, or drill holes for my twinkle lights.
I took the plunge and went for the path of never return. After measuring & marking the spacing, I drilled the holes for the lights.
Here’s the view from the back. I was really starting to regret my decision of adding holes at this point.
But I went ahead and inserted all my LED lights (I got a 20 strand battery powered set of LED lights from Walmart during Christmas) The tips aren’t pointed like normal Christmas lights, instead they are flat/curved, which I LOVE! (Basically, this set HERE, but in warm)
On the upper-left of the J, you will notice that we cut out a place for the light’s battery in the plywood.
Occasionally a light will slip out; but I just push them back. Overall, they stay in place while hanging.
After I saw it hanging up on the wall in the nursery, I was totally sold on the lights. You may notice that the color on the wall changed from the above cream on the top photo, to the soft grey here. The cream was the original color, but I was going for a slight industrial tone in the room, and grey was my alternative to white. 🙂
The finished Marquee looks so soft and dreamy in the nursery & I am IN LOVE with how this element looks in Jason’s room! Well, there you have it: A DIY Letter Marquee Light made with Pallets! Have a lovely day everyone.
