If you follow me on Instagram @welivedhappilyeverafter then you know that I made my kids a Magical Narnia Wardrobe Room. Well, then I had the idea to deck it all out for Christmas. So naturally, we needed dragon gingerbread ornaments!
Here’s a little peek into the completed space. Go HERE to see the full reveal.
My daughter June and I made a bunch of gingerbread salt dough, and then cut out our designs free hand. We did lots of trees, mountains, houses, and of course, DRAGONS!
Here’s my salt dough recipe:
-3 Cups Flour
-1 Cup Cinnamon (or you can substitute with Cocoa Powder)
-1 Cup Salt
-1 1/2- 2 Cups Hot Water
Mix your dough up with a kitchen aid, and then roll it out.
Before you bake them, don’t forget to add a hole for hanging if you plan to use these as ornaments.
I love this recipe because the cut outs don’t spread.
I actually love how some of them puffed out, but if you want to avoid that look, they will stay flat if you bake at 250 F and poke holes with a fork on the backsides of your creations before cooking them.
I was going to try and paint the dragons the traditional white frosting gingerbread style, but it didn’t look right.
My daughter decided to paint hers with colorful acrylic paint, and I was hooked. So we painted ALL of the dragons.
Now I want to make more! Seriously, I know I will remember my time baking these with the kids forever and ever.
It’s the most magical of spaces, and I have been know to just snuggle up in there all by myself. Haha!
I love how the dragons look up agains the artwork as well!
They look perfect in our winter wonderland Narnia Room.
