Movie Sign {Just a board and Christmas Tree Lights!}

Thanks for stopping by today! I am really excited to be sharing this one with you all!
I fell in LOVE with the concept of an outdoor movie night (more about this on another day.) I thought it would be special to reserve it for my sister’s surprise birthday party because she had talked about how she wanted to do one this summer.

I guess she was wondering why I kept putting it off
“No Laurel, I don’t think we should do an outdoor movie night  for your graduation.”
We were sneaky! 😉

This movie night concept was confirmed when I saw this adorable “MOVIE” sign at Oh Happy Day.
Here is my version:

After picking out my board, I chose the font I wanted for my word, “Movie.” Then I printed it out in the size I wanted and traced it out onto my board. Next, I marked where I wanted all my lights to be on each letter.
Then I had my handsome helper drill the holes for me. We double checked to make sure that the lights fit into the holes we were drilling.

Next, I painted my sign with white and let it dry. Then I painted my letters yellow and antiqued it a little by rubbing a little bit of the white paint on the letters.

 Now for the crazy part: Insert all your christmas tree light bulbs (we used icicle lights) into the holes. Do this with the lights on (you don’t want to end up with a dead bulb!) and keep on checking the other side to make sure you didn’t miss any holes. I didn’t glue them on, knowing how temperamental christmas tree lights can be. But they stayed in place pretty well.

Isn’t it awesome all lit up at night! I LOVE it so much!
I am so happy with the way it turned out!
It was the perfect edition to our movie night, and we will definitely use it again!

One great thing about it was it didn’t cost me anything! I just used materials I already had on hand. You can’t beat that!
